Cucumber Parisian Gherkin Organic Seeds

Cucumber Parisian Gherkin Organic Seeds

Cucumis sativus var. sativus (hybrid)

Item #3085

50 days. Gherkins are tiny cucumbers used for pickles, and these are the best! Pickle them at 2" for French cornichons ("little horns"), or any other kind at 3"–4" long. Also enjoy whole in salads for a unique presentation. 24" semi-vining plants are ideal for small garden spaces and containers. Excellent disease resistance to scab and cucumber mosaic virus; tolerant to powdery mildew. A 2015 All-America Selections winner.

This packet sows up to 10 ft. of trellised cucumbers.

Seed Depth:

Seed Spacing:
A group of 2 seeds
every 12"

Row Spacing:

plant every 12"

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost, and when soil temperature is at least 60°F, ideally 70°–90°F.

When to start inside: 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost. Cucumbers are sensitive to root disturbance; sow in biodegradable pots.

Harvesting: Harvest at gherkin size in just 50 days. ‘Parisian Gherkin’ can also be allowed to grow to slicing size, in about 70 days. Do not let cucumbers get too big; plants stop producing if there are overly mature cucumbers on the vine. Pick regularly before fruits are bigger than optimal size (see variety information). Cut the stem rather than pulling at the fruit to break off. Once picked, immediately immerse in cold water to disperse “field heat”, which increases the quality and life of picked fruit
